How much does it cost to landscape a small front yard?
A small refresh can stay under a few thousand dollars. New sod on 500 sq ft is about $750–$1,000, and a 50 sq ft stone bed is about $300–$600. A clean lawn, tidy beds and a sharp edge do most of the work.
What's the cheapest way to landscape a yard?
Usually it's fixing what's already there. Level the lawn, lay fresh sod, clean up the beds and put a clean edge around them. Sod costs far less than turf or concrete, and a tidy yard reads as a finished yard.
Where to save
Do it in phases
Front this year, back next. You still get a plan for the whole yard, and you pay for it in pieces.
Pick the simpler finish
A broom finish costs less than exposed aggregate or stamped concrete, and it does the same job.
Use sod where you can
Turf makes the most sense in small, shady or hard-working spots. Keep sod on the big, sunny areas.
Start with smaller plants
Smaller shrubs cost less and fill in over a couple of seasons.
Group the work
Doing related jobs together, like sod and sprinklers or a driveway and its edges, saves digging up new work later.
Where not to save
The grading
If the ground is wrong, everything on top of it is wrong too. Fix it once, before anything goes down.
Taking out the old lawn
Sod laid over an old lawn usually fails. Paying to do it twice is the most expensive way to save money.
The base under concrete and turf
You'll never see it, and it's what decides how long the job lasts.
Insurance
A cheap quote from someone without insurance isn't cheap if something goes wrong on your property.
Why the cheapest quote can cost you more
Low quotes often leave out removal, disposal, grading or soil, and those are real costs. Ask every landscaper what's included, in writing, so you're comparing the same job.
Do you take small jobs?
Yes. Every job, big or small, gets the same free on-site estimate and the same written quote that day.
